Homecare Choices is always looking for compassionate caregivers to provide our clients with the great care they deserve and make a positive impact on their quality of life. Most of the time that positive impact is mutual as people who enjoy caregiving recognize the gift of time with elders and the many rewards of the job. If you are interested in becoming a caregiver, the following information will provide a better understanding of the role and how to get started in this rewarding new position:
Q: What is the starting salary?
A: Our starting salary is $16/hour. However, we do pay for experience and we have a variety of cases that reward extra effort and skill with hourly rates as high as $24/hour.
Q: What are the benefits?
A: Homecare Choices offers a competitive and comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, retirement benefits and life insurance for all our full-time employees.
Q: I know Homecare Choices serves clients and families on Cape Cod. What are the most likely towns where I would have assignments?
A: Homecare Choices is currently serving clients from the bridges to Harwich. Our care coordinators always strive to ensure that caregivers are offered cases in their preferred area and compensated for mileage if travelling directly between clients.
Q: What qualifications do I need to be a caregiver?
A: While a CNA or HHA certification is always beneficial, it is not required. We have many cases in which the primary concern for the client and their family is providing companionship or performing homemaking duties. We do look carefully for maturity, courtesy and life experience, but many other skills and even qualifications can be acquired while working.
Q: What are the specific tasks I would perform as a caregiver?
A: Caregivers are responsible for assisting clients with their daily activities. These activities can include bathing, personal care, grooming, feeding, medication reminders, cooking and light housework. Some clients may require more assistance due to their decreased mobility, while others require more monitoring to ensure their safety.
Q: Do you have part-time positions available?
A: We do. In fact, we are a 24/7 operation with many clients and commitments so caregivers can make a big difference in a small role as long as they are able to be consistent and reliable.
Q: Do you have caregivers that stay with clients overnight, and how does that work?
A: Many caregivers find overnight shifts to be an ideal match for their availability. Our overnight work requires that caregivers be awake and alert to the client’s needs. Most overnight shifts are 10 to 12 hours and the duties tend to be light but the responsibility for client safety and comfort is vital.
Q: Is caregiving a good job for most people?
A: Caregiving is a joy and a great choice if it matches your temperament, strengths and abilities. It can be a physical job as clients often require hands-on support. It requires patience as clients are often delicate or even confused and deserve kindness and comfort as they seek to make the most of their life. They are also interesting and often wise and it is very rewarding to be their trusted person if you have the right attitude for the job.
We have chosen caregiving as a profession because we consider it to be a first-choice profession. We oversee our operation with a deep dedication to ensuring quality care and accountability. If you believe that you would find it fulfilling to be part of our mission and team, we would love to hear from you.
